Ticket types and discounts

Ticket types and discounts

The price list changes more often than anything else, and it is where most of the damage gets done. One rule holds it together: prices live in one place only, inside the event. The cart, the app and the booking-change page all read from there, so they cannot quote three different figures.

Ticket types

Inside the event you add one row per price: Full, Concession, Under 14, whatever you need. Each row has a name, a price and — if you want — a maximum number.

Tickets that include a drink

If the price includes something from the bar, you declare it here. That part is kept separate in the accounts, and it is never discounted: twenty per cent off takes twenty per cent off the show, not off the glass you still have to pay for.

Discounts

You create them in MyBoxOffice → Management → Discounts, and they come in four kinds:

Early bird

Buy early, pay less. You set an end date and the price goes back to full on its own.

With a code

A word typed into the cart. Useful for the press, for partners, for anyone who gave you a hand.

Referral

Someone brings a friend. The discount goes to the one who invites, the one who arrives, or both — you decide.

Anniversaries

A birthday, or the anniversary of their first night with you. It goes out by itself, by email.

One rule that always holds

A discount already earned stays. If you change the rules tomorrow or narrow a promotion, whoever already had their discount keeps it: the restriction stops people earning new ones, it never takes away the old. That is deliberate — a price that changes after the purchase is the fastest way there is to lose trust.
